José Carlos Martín, councillor for infrastructure in Mijas, has announced plans to extend the existing Virgen de la Peña multi-storey car park in Mijas Pueblo, by adding 350 new underground spaces.
The topic of parking in our little Pueblo has been the subject of many debates in recent years. Whilst the cost of the car park (just 1€ all day!) is fantastic and great value for money, the village can often become incredibly busy during the summer months when lots of tourists and second-home owners are visiting the area. During these months, the car park becomes full in no time, and with very little parking elsewhere in the village, it can be off-putting. Many local businesses claim that the lack of parking has even had an impact on the number of tourist arrivals too.
This announcement by Councillor Martín is excellent news for both our local community and visitors to our beautiful village. We look forward to seeing the plans develop soon!
