In the heart of Mijas Pueblo, the Plaza Virgen de la Peña came alive with the vibrant celebration of San Juan! Locals and visitors gathered for an unforgettable evening, highlighted by the burning of 11 “júas.”
The “júas” are dolls that make fun of well-known, local and national figures, and that are destined to be burned at the stake.
As midnight struck, the sky over Plaza Virgen de la Peña was ablaze with bonfires, symbolizing the burning away of the old to make room for the new and good. This enchanting event was organized by the Brotherhood of the Dulce Nombre de Jesús Nazareno and featured a full schedule of activities starting around 8 p.m., just as the sun and full moon shared the sky.
